Baseball for Wednesday Sept. 10, 2008

Cincinnati at Milwaukee. Line: Milwaukee -310, 7 -110.

As I have discussed here before, I feel like the Brewers are in a tail spin. However, today they send CC Sabathia to the mound, and as we all know, he has been lights out since arriving at the Brewers. Basically he has been untouchable. However, all good things must come to an end and this is a spot where I think a player could take a chance on a real juicy underdog. Take a shot on the Reds here and you may get to cash a nice ticket. Arroyo is a tough pitcher in his own right and its tough to score runs in Milwaukee during the day. Pick: Cincinatti and Under.

Florida at Philadelphia. Line: Philadelphia -155, 8.5 -105.

Brett Myers is hot and the Phillies really need this game. The Marlins won a tough one last night by jumping out to a 9-1 lead and then holding on for the 10-8 win. Here, I think Myers gets it done and a hot Ryan Howard is able to lead the Phighten Phils to the victory. Pick: Philly.

Yesterday Was Better

That's more like it. Yesterday we went 2-1. The Cardinals defended the home field and kept the score low. Albert Pujols knocked in 3 runs and Chris Perez notched the win in relief.

The only sour note was Padilla pitching 5.2 scoreless innings for the Rangers beating Felix Hernandez and the Mariners.

Baseball for Tuesday Sept. 9, 2008

Cubs at Cardinals. Line: St. Louis +105, 8.5 +100.

The Cubs send Ryan Dempster against the Cardinals and Kyle Loshe. Both of these pitchers have been solid all year but the cubs are ice cold, having lost 7 of their last 8 games. This game is on the road and I feel like the Cardinals have a better than even chance of winning. Since they are paying slightly more than even money I will take the cardinals.

The total in this game seems to be a bit high as well with both pitchers having very respectible ERA's. Depmster comes in with an ERA of 2.99 and Loshe with a 3.76 ERA. I just don't see a lot of runs being scored here. PICKS: St. Louis and Under.

Texas at Seattle. Line: Seattle -160, 8.5 -115.

Texas sends Vicente Padilla to the mound to against Felix Hernandez. I have always been a fan of Hernandez, he has electric stuff and when he is on his game he is untouchable. Recently he has pitched well and recently Padilla has not. Padilla has watched his ERA which was once pretty respectible clime to close to 5.00. Take Seattle and the home field. PICK: Seattle.

Thats all I could come up with after studying all the games for today. Let's hope tonight turns things around after a disapointing debut. Good Luck!

Dodgers Dash Our Hopes of a Winning Night

Well, I wanted to start off this sight on a winning note, but it was not to be as Gregg Maddux gave up four earned runs in 6 innings and his teammates could not muster a single run. The Dodger bullpen was on its game however, and did not give up a single run. Thus, we lost both the side and the total, and finished the night 2-3. Tomorrow is another day however, and we will get back at 'em. Goodnight!

Reds Rally Late

The Cincinnati Reds further confirmed my suspicion that the Brewers are headed for disaster, as the Reds scored 3 runs in the 9th off of Milwaukee closer Solomon Torres. Torres gave up 4 hits in 2 walks in the ninth inning to blow the save. This was a bad loss for the Brewers on a night that the Phillies managed to hang on and beat the Marlins. The Brewers now only hold a 3 game lead over the Phillies. Think that 4 game series in Philly this weekend is going to be fun to watch? Yeah it will be.

Cleveland Crumbles

Fausto Carmona, Juan Rincon, and Brendon Donnelly combined to give up 14 runs, as the Indians could not find anybody who could get the Orioles out. Adam Jones and Aubry Huff each had four RBIs for the Orioles.

Garrett Olsen didn't make it look pretty as he gave up 8 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings, but only 3 runs for the win. The Orioles will take it however, as it snaps an 8 run skid for the Os.

Detroit Pays Off

Zach Minor did not pitch well giving up 8 runs in 4.1 innings, but Casey Fossum pitched well in relief giving up just a walk in 2.3 innings to get the win for the Tigers. Gary Sheffield hit 2 Home Runs and had 5 RBIs as the Tigers prevailed in this defensive struggle over the Athletics 14-8. For Sheffield this was a good night in what has been a nightmare of a season for him.

Gio Gonzales continued to show that he is in WAAAY over his head as he was torched for 9 runs (8 earned) in 2.1 innings. Josh Outman, who the A's stole from the Phillies as part of a lopsided trade that saw the phillies ship off 2 of their top ten prospects to the A's for Joe Blanton (he was terrible again tonight, but the Phils managed to hang on giving Blanton his 2nd win for the Phighten Phils), showed that he also may not be ready for prime time yet, as he gave up 3 earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched.
